Yankton County reported a one-day high of 18 more positive tests of COVID-19 on Wednesday, which has led to a record high of 137 active cases. Bon Homme County had 15 new infections and now has a record high total of 81 active cases of the virus. Union County now has 164 active cases of COVID-19 and Clay County has 94 active cases.
The state of South Dakota had 876 positive tests yesterday with nearly six hundred additional active cases of COVID-19 confirmed, bringing the statewide total up to 6,604. There are currently 303 people hospitalized with the virus. Three deaths were reported Wednesday, bringing the South Dakota death toll up to 291. The deaths were from Douglas, Codington and Pennington Counties and the fatalities were all people at least 70 years old.
Neighboring states had all-time high numbers of deaths from the coronavirus as well. There were 29 deaths confirmed Wednesday in Minnesota where the death toll is at 2,180. The death toll from the virus in Iowa is up to 1,505 after 11 more fatalities were reported yesterday.
