With local workforce development efforts in recent years hindered due to a need for affordable housing, municipal officials are pleased with record-setting numbers for single family building permits that have been issued within the city of Yankton.
Mayor Nathan Johnson says the number of eighteen single family housing permits issued last month is a new record for the community.
Johnson says overall housing numbers for 2020 are trending well above the ten-year average.
Johnson says a number of factors including low-interest rates and the availability of jobs are responsible for Yankton’s strong housing numbers.
Johnson says with phase two of the Westbrook Estates housing development moving forward, housing numbers in the Yankton community should continue to be strong for the near future.
