KYNT Local Sports for 9-8-20

The Mount Marty University volleyball squad opened their season winning three of four matches this weekend at the Wendy’s Invitational in Oskaloosa, Iowa.  Ponca senior Elizabeth Watchorn led the Lancers with a total of 48 kills, while sophomore Amber Miller had 110 set assists this weekend.  Mount Marty starts their G-PAC schedule with a match at Doane University on Wednesday.

The Mount Marty cross-country squad started their season Saturday at the Sunflower Opener in Sioux Center, Iowa.  The Lancer men took eighth place and the women finished ninth.

The Yankton girls softball team split two games Saturday in Rapid City, crushing Central 14-1 and losing by a 4-1 score against Stevens.  Jenna Cox blasted three home runs and drove in six runs for the Gazelles on the day.  Yankton is 6-6 on the season and will host Washington in a twin bill tonight at Sertoma Park.

The Yankton Bucks junior varsity football team blanked Watertown 34-0 Monday at Crane-Youngworth Field.  Sophomore Charlie Foote led the Bucks with 171 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

The top-two rated teams in Class 11-AA football match up this Friday night in Yankton.  The Bucks have scored a total of 109 points in victories over Spearfish and Dakota Valley, while the top-ranked Pierre Governors are unbeaten and have won the last three state championships.

The Yankton Gazelles tennis team will host Sioux Falls O’Gorman in a dual meet today at 3:00.  The Yankton High School soccer teams have a pair of games at the Tea Area High School, with the girls game at 6 p-m and the boys contest at 8:00.  The Yankton volleyball squad has a match at Sioux Falls Washington at 7 p-m.
