The Yankton club softball team is on a roll, sweeping third-ranked Brandon Valley last night by scores of 6-3 and 12-2. Jenna Cox had four RBI’s in the opener, and Elle Feser belted a grand-slam in the nightcap for the Gazelles. Yankton now has a 12 and 6 season record and will host the ESD Conference Tournament Saturday at Sertoma Park.
Sioux Falls Roosevelt scored two goals in the first half and shut out Yankton 2-0 in girls soccer on Tuesday, dropping the Gazelles to a 1-7-1 season record. In the boys contest, Roosevelt scored with four minutes left to edge the Bucks 2-1. The Yankton boys are now 4 and 5 overall. The Gazelles and Bucks continue their season with a doubleheader at Brookings next Tuesday.
Sioux Falls Lincoln and Mitchell both defeated Yankton in girls tennis matches yesterday by identical 8-1 scores. Gazelles seventh-grader Nora Krajewski won each of her matches at number-two singles. Yankton plays a dual meet at Vermillion tomorrow afternoon.
Dakota Valley stayed unbeaten after sweeping Yankton in volleyball last night by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-13. Chloe McDermott led the Gazelles with nine kills, while Jordynn Salvatori had three blocks and 25 digs. Yankton is 1 and 9 on the season with a match coming up at Pierre on Friday.
The Mount Marty University volleyball team swept York College last night by scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-14. Elizabeth Watchorn had 12 kills and Gabby Ruth added 11 kills in the Lancer win. Mount Marty is 4 and 5 on the season and continues their GPAC schedule this evening against the College of St. Mary at the Cimpl Arena. We’ll broadcast the volleyball match beginning at 7:15 on KYNT.
The first planned doubleheader for the Mount Marty University soccer teams has been postponed until next month. The Lancer games at Doane University have been moved from this evening back to Monday, October 5th.
