KYNT Local Sports for 9-12-20

The Yankton Bucks put up a huge second half and whipped the three-time defending state champion Pierre Governors 52-29 last night at Crane-Youngworth Field.  Corbin Sohler led Yankton with 105 yards rushing and four touchdowns, while sophomore Cody Oswald tied a Bucks team record with three interceptions. Yankton is unbeaten in three games and plays at Vermillion next Friday.

Today is a busy day for Yankton High School student-athletes.  There will be 15 boys golf teams competing for honors in today’s annual Yankton Invitational starting at 10 a-m at Fox Run Golf Course.  The Yankton Gazelles tennis squad will be in Sioux Falls this morning for a triangular against Roosevelt and Aberdeen Roncalli.  The YHS cross-country runners will compete at the Brandon Valley Invitational starting at 9:30 this morning.

The Mount Marty University cross-country runners will participate at 10:30 this morning in the Herb Blakely Invitational hosted by Dakota State in Madison.

Dakota State defeated Mount Marty in four sets in volleyball last night in Madison by scores of 25-13, 16-25, 25-14 and 25-20.  Gabby Ruth had 13 kills and 10 digs for the Lancers, who are 3-3 overall and will host Presentation in two varsity matches this afternoon at the Cimpl Arena.

The Mount Marty University women’s golf team finished with a 715 two-day total and placed eighth out of 13 teams at their Invitational this week at Fox Run Golf Course.  Victoria Suto from the College of St. Mary shot even-par rounds of 72 each day for a 144 total to win medalist honors.  Freshman Caitlyn Stimpson of Wagner led the Lancers with a 36-hole total of 174 to place 18th overall.

There are three former University of South Dakota football players on the rosters of National Football League teams as the NFL season kicks off this weekend.  Offensive lineman Tom Compton has played in 99 pro games since 2012 and is on the San Francisco 49ers this season.  Quarterback Chris Streveler has made the squad for the Arizona Cardinals this fall, and defensive lineman Kameron Cline is on the practice squad for the Indianapolis Colts.
