KYNT Local Sports for 9-11-20

The battle of unbeatens and the top two football teams in the South Dakota Media Class 11-AA poll this week meet tonight at Crane-Youngworth Field.  The Yankton Bucks have outscored their opponents Spearfish and Dakota Valley by a combined 109 to 25, and the Pierre Governors are the three-time defending state champions and have allowed a total of two touchdowns this season in beating Sturgis and West Central.  Catch the action live on KYNT 102-1 FM/AM 1450, on-line, or the free KYNT mobile app as KYNT Sports Director and voice of YHS Football Bryce Ladwig and color analyst Jacob Wertz bring you the action with pre-game coverage at 6:30 and kickoff at 7:00 tonight.

In other high school area football matchups tonight, the top two ranked teams in Class 9-A meet in Canistota as defending state champion Canistota-Freeman hosts Howard, Bon Homme visits Parkston, Gayville-Volin hosts Platte-Geddes, Irene-Wakonda goes to Colome, Class C-2 top seed Hartington Cedar Catholic entertains Tekamah-Herman and defending champion Oakland-Craig plays at Crofton.

The Gazelles volleyball squad won their first set against a South Dakota opponent last night, but seventh-seed Brandon Valley topped Yankton by scores of 25-18, 25-12, 19-25 and 25-14.  Jordynn Salvatori led the Gazelles with 34 digs and three blocks.  Yankton is 1-8 overall and will host Dakota Valley next Tuesday.

Yankton held their annual Cheer and Dance Invitational last night at the Summit Activities Center.  The Gazelles Dance team placed fifth and the Cheer Squad ended up ninth in the competition.

The Mount Marty University women’s golf team stands in seventh place out of 13 teams after the opening day of the Lancer Invitational tournament at Fox Run Golf Course.  Morningside has a 33-shot lead after a 311 yesterday while Mount Marty totaled 363, led by an 86 from freshman Caitlyn Stimpson of Wagner.  The tourney concludes with an 18-hole round today at Fox Run.

The Mount Marty volleyball squad is 3-2 on the season with a match coming up tonight at Dakota State.  The Lancers will host Presentation in a pair of varsity matches tomorrow afternoon at the Cimpl Arena.
