KYNT Local Sports for 9-10-20

Doane University topped Mount Marty University in the G-PAC volleyball opener last night by scores of 25-17, 25-20, 20-25 and 26-24.  Sophomore Gabby Ruth led the Lancers with 14 kills and sophomore Amber Miller finished with 28 assists.  Mount Marty is 3-2 overall and will play at Dakota State Friday night before hosting two matches Saturday afternoon against Presentation College.

The Mount Marty University women’s soccer team opened their season last night with a 5-0 loss at Dordt University in a non-conference matchup.  The Lancers begin conference competition next Wednesday with a doubleheader at Doane.

The Mount Marty University women’s golf squad hosts their annual invitational today and tomorrow at Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton.   Lancer head coach Todd Schlimgen says the tourney involves 13 teams with a total of 76 golfers.

The Yankton Cheer and Dance teams will host their annual Invitational today starting at 5 p-m at the Summit Activities Center.

The Yankton volleyball squad is 1-7 overall and has a match at Brandon Valley tonight.  The Lynx are seeded seventh in the state with a 3-2 season record.

The South Dakota High School Coach of the Year awards will be handed out Saturday at an awards luncheon in Mitchell.  Tyler Schuring will be honored as the Girls Soccer Coach of the Year after guiding the Gazelles to an unbeaten season and the state title last October.  Among other honors, Galen Schoenfeld of Viborg-Hurley was named the Boys Basketball Coach of the Year and Glenda Bohlmann from Menno will be honored as a Middle School Assistant Coach.
