KYNT Local Sports for 8-4-20

The Yankton Reds finished runner-up in the Class A 13-under state baseball tournament in Sioux Falls.  Watertown defeated Yankton 14-1 in the title game after the Reds had beaten Harrisburg, Brookings and Aberdeen on their way to the championship contest.  The Reds were coached by Colin Muth and Alec Martin on their way to a 15 and 9 overall season.

Three teams have earned their way to the Class A Legion Baseball state tourney coming up in Rapid City.  Defending champion Renner, Pierre and Rapid City Post 22 all won their second-round series last night.  Brandon Valley and Mitchell will decide the other spot in the four team Class A state tournament.

High schools in South Dakota began organized practices yesterday in many fall sports.  Girls and Boys Soccer, Girls and Boys Cross-Country, Girls Tennis and Boys Golf were among the sports to start practices with many of those competitive seasons beginning in less than two weeks.

University of South Dakota senior captain Jack Cochrane has been named a third-team pre-season All-American by the Phil Steele publication.  Cochrane has started at linebacker the past two seasons for the Coyotes and led the Missouri Valley Football Conference last year with 106 tackles.  He also led the USD defense with two interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
