KYNT Local Sports for 8-1-20

Yankton is hosting the Region 2-A Legion baseball tournament this weekend, and last night Yankton upset top-seed Harrisburg 8-3 at Riverside Field.  Landon Loecker pitched the complete-game victory for Yankton.  Loecker and Sam Kampshoff each drove in two runs.  Yankton takes on Sioux Falls West this afternoon in a winners bracket game.

The Yankton Lakers whipped Watertown 9-2 last night in the opening round of the 14-under state baseball tournament in Aberdeen.  Lucas Kampshoff pitched the complete-game win and added three hits for Yankton.  The Lakers will face Brandon Valley and Brookings in pool play today at the state tourney.

The District 6-B amateur baseball tournament concludes this evening at the Menno ballpark.  The Menno Mad Frogs will take on the Irene Cardinals at 5:00 with the winner advancing to the state tournament next week in Mitchell.  The District 6-B championship game will be follow matching the Crofton Bluejays against the Wynot Expos.

The USA Softball Girls Fastpitch Northern Nationals Tournament continues the next two days at Sertoma Park in Yankton.  The tournament features 26 teams in the 14-Under and 12-Under divisions.

The 47th annual Hillcrest Pro-Am Invitational has reached the halfway point at Hillcrest Country Club in Yankton.  In the pro division, Steven Kupcho of Colorado and Kyle Karazissis from California share the lead with 14-under-par totals after two rounds.  Keegan Bak from Iowa leads the amateur division with a two-under 142 and Jason Merkel is third at 145.  Merlyn Schmuck of Yankton leads the senior division with a 158 total and Denny Fokken of Yankton is tied for second at 162.
