Mental health issues faced by South Dakota’s first responders including job related post-traumatic stress disorder is the focus of a legislative task force which will begin meeting later this month.
District 18 Representative Ryan Cwach serves as the task forces’ Vice-Chair and says this study group is a result of a bill he introduced in last winter’s legislative session.
Cwach says he heard from law enforcement officers and firefighters throughout the state that have been impacted by responding to emergencies and disasters.
Cwach says the task force wants to hear from South Dakota first responders about any job related mental health issues they have faced.
The Mental Health of First Responders Task Force’s first meeting is set for August 20th.
