As with many other aspects of life in the post COVID 19 world, budgeting for both businesses and governments is more uncertain than before with a greater tendency towards conservative estimates on the part of budget planners than they have shown previously.
Yankton City Manager Amy Leon says the level of uncertainty has made it difficult for city staff to focus on budget work as closely as they would like.
Leon says the COVID 19 pandemic is an event out of everyone’s experience with far reaching economic consequences that have yet to be fully understood.
Leon says this level of uncertainty causes her to take an even more conservative approach to budget planning than she usually does.
Leon says a Yankton City Commission budget workshop is set for August 10th, following that evening’s regular meeting of the board.
