KYNT Local Sports for 7-18-20

The Yankton Legion baseball team split a doubleheader against eighth-ranked Brookings last night at Riverside Field.  Yankton took the opener 5-1 as Carson Haak pitched a complete game five-hitter for the win.  Brookings won the nightcap 8-1 as Yankton committed eight errors and could manage only two hits.  Yankton is 6 and 15 overall with a Legion game next Wednesday night at Tabor.

Vermillion and Tabor each won two Legion baseball games on Friday.  Tabor rolled past Alexandria by scores of 11-1 and 16-4.  Vermillion beat McCook-Miner 6-5 and shut out Sioux Valley 10-0 yesterday.

The Yankton Black Sox split a twin bill at O’Neill on Friday.  O’Neill took the first game 3-2, and the Black Sox won the second contest 8-6.

The Mount Marty University football coaching staff has added a pair of graduate assistants.  Ethan Andersen will coach the wide receivers and assist the offense.  Andersen is a graduate from Lincoln Pius and played quarterback for Nebraska Wesleyan.  M-J Piranio will be the graduate defensive assistant at Mount Marty.  Piranio prepped at Don Bosco in New Jersey and last year was the Quality Control coach at St. Thomas Aquinas College in New York.

The second round of the Dakotas Tour stop at Moccasin Creek Country Club in Aberdeen will be held today.  Josh Gibson from Michigan took the lead after shooting four-under-par yesterday.
