KYNT Local Sports for 7-11-20

The Yankton Tappers pounded out 20 hits in a 19-1 victory at Lesterville last night in South Central League amateur baseball.  Derrik Nelson had two home runs with seven RBI’s and Mason Townsend belted two homers and drove in four runs.  The Tappers are now 14-1 on the season and will host Wynot Sunday evening.  Other South Central League games tomorrow night include Lesterville at Crofton, Irene will host menno and Scotland plays at Freeman.

In youth baseball Friday at Riverside Field, the Yankton Lakers beat Ponca 7-1.  Sean Turner pitched five innings for Yankton, allowing just one hit and recording seven strikeouts.  The Lakers host Watertown in a doubleheader this afternoon.

The Yankton Legion baseball team is 4 and 9 on the season and will play at Mitchell Sunday in a twin bill starting at noon.

The Mount Marty University football squad had received a commitment from a strong fullback out of Texas.  R-J Mitchell stands 6’2”, weighs 245 pounds, and is from Bay City, Texas.  Mitchell joins a group of 40 recruits for the Lancer football program which begins play in the fall of 2021.

The Fox Run Pro champion this week is going for back-to-back titles on the Dakotas Golf Tour.  Daniel Sutton of Denver, Colorado shot a 63 on Friday and is tied with Jared Du Toit from Scottsdale, Arizona at 13-under-par after two rounds.  The final round in the 54-hole event is today at The Ridge in Sioux Center, Iowa.
