The Yankton Lakers whipped Scotland 11-1 last night in South Central League amateur baseball as Cobe Porter pitched a five-hitter with eight strikeouts. Rex Ryken led the offense with a home run and double and three runs scored. Ryken and Sam Mooney each drove in three runs for the Lakers. Tabor beat Irene 4-1 as Doug Vanachek threw seven shutout innings allowing only one hit. Crofton edged Freeman 6-4 as James Kaiser pitched seven innings for the win and Tyler Zimmerman had three hits for the Bluejays.
Tonight on the South Central League schedule, the Yankton Lakers visit Tabor, the Yankton Tappers go to Lesterville, and Menno hosts Scotland.
The Yankton Legion baseball squad will host South Sioux City in one game tonight, starting at 8:00 at Riverside Field.
Former Irene-Wakonda standout Gabe King has signed his first professional basketball contract. King has agreed to play pro basketball with the B-C Silute team in Lithuania. King was an All-State high school selection for the Eagles, and then an All-Conference college player at Northern State.
Alex Scott from Traverse City, Michigan continued his fine golfing yesterday, as he led the first round of the Dakotas Tour event with a 64 including eight birdies at The Ridge in Sioux Center, Iowa. Scott had a three-round total of 15-under-par and lost in a playoff earlier this week for the Fox Run Pro championship. Sioux Falls pro Doug Quinones shot a 65 Thursday at for second place in the 54-hole event that continues through Saturday in Sioux Center.
