KYNT Local Sports for 6-23-20

Mount Marty College has renamed their Champions of Character Award after long-time softball coach and former baseball player Albert Fernandez.  This year’s recipient of the Award is senior Jonah Rechtenbaugh, a track and field sprinter from Hartford, South Dakota.  The Lancer Club honored 15 student-athletes at Mount Marty including Yankton High School grads Colin Muth and Nathan List.

The University of South Dakota is preparing to host their largest fundraiser this Friday evening.  This year, the Howling Pack will host a Virtual event, Calling All Coyotes, starting at 5:30 p-m.  After a social hour with interviews, the live auction will be streamed on-line at 6:30 which can be viewed on the Coyotes Facebook and YouTube pages.

The Sanford Series on the South Dakota Golf Association held their tournament at Hillcrest Country Club in Yankton on Monday.  Jack Lundin of Sioux Falls won the men’s title with a five-under-par 67.  Yankton Bucks golfer Gavin Haselhorst tied for tenth place with a 76.  Shannon McCormick of Sioux Falls took the women’s division with an 81, one stroke ahead of Maya Muller from Beresford.  The Tour continues next Monday in Rapid City.

The Yankton Legion baseball team has two games scheduled this morning at Aspen Park in Brandon.  The games were moved from Sioux Falls because of field conditions.  Yankton will take on Sioux Falls East at 9:00 this morning and then face Pierre at 11 a-m.
