The Yankton Bucks basketball program announced their year-end awards with a virtual program this week. Matthew Mors was chosen the Most Valuable Player in a year he set the all-time scoring record for Class Double-A boys basketball. The junior now holds eight school records for the Bucks. Cooper Cornemann was named Best Offense, while Aidan Feser and Trevor Fitzgerald shared the Best Defense honor. Hunter Kotrous and Jaden Kral were honored as Most Improved, Dylan Horn was selected as Most Representative and KYNT Sports Director Scott Kooistra was selected as the Friend of Bucks Basketball. Yankton ended up 17-4 this year and was the Class Double-A number-one seed in a season they set team records for most three-point baskets and best free throw percentage.
The Northeast Community College Athletic Department has announced that the All-Star Volleyball and Basketball involving standouts from northeast Nebraska have been cancelled. The games have been played annually in Norfolk during the month of June. Northeast Community College has also cancelled their athletic summer camps for this summer.
