KYNT Local Sports for 5-22-20

Two student-athletes from St. Thomas More High School in Rapid City will attend school and compete in sports at Mount Marty University this fall.  Kiah Trainor will run women’s cross-country for the Lancers and compete in the 800 and 1600 for the track squad.  She plans to major in History and Education at Mount Marty.  Alissa Stephens will join the women’s soccer squad as a mid-fielder for the Lancers, and she plans to major in Nursing at Mount Marty.

The University of South Dakota earned their largest margin of victory in defeating South Dakota State University 14.5 to 6.5 in the Showdown Series.  The series is sponsored by South Dakota Corn and serves as a partner with Feeding South Dakota.  The Coyotes won 10 of 13 athletic competitions from the Jackrabbits over this past school year.  The Showdown Series has been held for the past eight years and each school has won the trophy four times.

University of Sioux Falls golfer J-J Cooney of Pickstown was given an All-District Academic Award this week.  Cooney earned a degree in Business Administration and ranked fifth in scoring in the Northern Sun Conference.  Cooney joined Augustana’s Abby Hora from Viborg as a conference Male and Female Student Athlete of the Year.
