KYNT Local Sports for 5-11-20

The American Legion National Headquarters has suspended all states from Legion baseball this summer.  An e-mail sent out Sunday afternoon means that all states are not allowed to have youth baseball run by the American Legion this year.  Many local youth baseball programs across South Dakota will be discussing whether or not to run local teams on their own this summer.

The South Central Amateur Baseball League is set to begin their schedule with three games this Thursday.  The South Central League will include two Class A members, the Yankton Tappers and new entry Yankton Lakers.  The eight Class B teams will remain the same including Menno, Tabor, Freeman, Scotland, Lesterville, Irene, Crofton and Wynot.  The two Yankton teams will play on the road until Riverside Field opens and the Nebraska teams Crofton and Wynot won’t play until June 1st.

In non-league amateur baseball Sunday afternoon, Mt. Vernon defeated the new Yankton Lakers team 11-1.

Yankton High School runner Brooke Solomon will continue her cross-country career at Wayne State College.  Solomon will join a Wildcat program coached by former Mount Marty head cross-country coach Marlon Brink.

Mount Marty has received a commitment from a Wyoming sprinter for their women’s track program.  Aniya Teppo is a 5’4” high school senior who will compete in the 100 and 200 meter dashes for Lancer head coach Randy Fischer.
