The ongoing COVID 19 pandemic is presenting new challenges for individuals, businesses and agencies and that includes members of local law enforcement.
Yankton Chief of Police John Harris says his officers are now using disposable plastic cuffs when making an arrest and taking steps to disinfect patrol cars during their shifts.
Harris says with people spending more time in close proximity to one another while sheltering in place, the possibility of an increase in domestic violence is a concern.
Harris says his hope is that businesses will respect the municipal ordinance that has closed their operations to the public without officers having to take enforcement actions.
Harris says people who need to contact the Yankton Police Department are encouraged to do so by telephone, if at all possible.
