Effective Monday the Yankton County Government Center will be officially closed to the public.
Yankton County Commission Chair Cheri Loest says the goal of the closure is to reduce the spread of COVID 19 by lowering the number of people coming into the building.
Loest says if business with county offices cannot be conducted over the phone or online, an appointment can be made.
Loest says while many people locally are taking the message of staying home and maintaining social distancing seriously, others are not.
The South Dakota Department of Health is reporting that through noon on Sunday, there were 240 cases of coronavirus throughout the state with 22 people listed as being hospitalized and 84 having recovered. Yankton County is listed as an area where substantial community transmission is occurring, that is: there are five or more cases of community acquired COVID 19 in the county.
