Yankton senior guard Madison Wuebben has been named First Team All-State in Class Double-A girls basketball in South Dakota. Wuebben averaged 15 points and 6 rebounds per game and moved up to third place in all-time scoring for Gazelles basketball. The 5’9” guard hit 33 percent of her three-point attempts in leading Yankton to a 15 and 6 record and the E-S-D Conference championship. She will attend school and play basketball for NCAA Division Two University of Sioux Falls next year.
Yankton junior Matthew Mors received another major honor as he was selected as the Midco Sports Network High School Class Double-A Boys Basketball Player of the Year. Mors led the top-seed Yankton Bucks by averaging 20 points, 9 boards, 3 assists and 2 steals per game this season, and he became the all-time leading scorer in South Dakota Class Double-A boys basketball history.
University of South Dakota senior Chris Nilsen and freshman Brithton Senior have been named the Summit League Male Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Year. Nilsen repeated as the league champion in the pole vault and set an all-time NCAA Indoor record with a leap of 19 feet, 5 ½ inches which is the fourth best mark in American history. Senior set a Summit League all-time record in winning the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 7.74 seconds.
