Meeting in special session Friday the Yankton County Commission has approved the creation of a Yankton County Health Board in response to the COVID 19 pandemic.
Commission Chair Cheri Loest says the commission extensively debated the health board issue before approving it.
Loest says both some members of the commission and the public expressed concerns about the extent of the authority the health board possesses.
With restrictions on the number of people that can gather together in place, Loest says the county is looking to state government for guidance on how to conduct future commission meetings through an on-line platform.
The Yankton County Commission voted unanimously to approve the health board who’s members will include State’s Attorney Rob Klimisch, Chief Deputy Emergency Manager Erin Hacecky and a medical professional who will be added later.
