Emergency Management Social Media

The need for social distancing due to the COVID 19 pandemic has led to an increased use of social media platforms for public agencies for both conducting business and getting information out to the public.

Yankton County Emergency Management Director Paul Scherschligt says while the meetings of the local COVID 19 task force are not open to the public, the task force will be using social media several times a week to communicate with citizens.

Scherschligt says the annual severe weather training hosted by the National Weather Service each spring in Yankton is expected to be made available through an online meeting platform.

Scherschligt says while the COVID 19 pandemic is a top priority, there are other issues taking place that the public needs to be informed about.
