By total of just under fifty four percent, Yankton School District voters Tuesday approved a one-point-eight-five million dollar opt-out of the state freeze on property taxes for the next four years.
Superintendent Wayne Kindle says he thanks everyone who participated in the election.
During a series of over thirty public meetings Kindle says the message he heard from citizens was that the district had done what had been asked of them.
Kindle says there is still work to do to get the South Dakota Legislature to effectively address K-through-12th grade education funding.
Unofficial totals for Tuesday’s Yankton School District opt-out election: Total Votes Cast: 3641 Yes: 1965 No: 1676 53.9% in favor with 26.6 % of eligible voters participating.
