KYNT Local Sports for 2-15-20

The Yankton Gazelles won their seventh consecutive basketball last night with a 58-49 victory over Sioux Falls Roosevelt.  Madison Wuebben topped Yankton with 19 points, Sadie Fedders added 14 points and 6 rebounds, and Kelsey Oswald chipped in 12 points.  Yankton is 10 and 5 and seeded fifth in Class AA Girls basketball with a home game Tuesday against Sioux Falls Christian.

The Yankton Bucks had their nine-game winning streak snapped last night as Watertown picked up a 54-53 home court victory.  Yankton junior Matthew Mors had 12 points and 8 rebounds and in the fourth quarter he became the all-time scoring leader in AA Boys basketball history.  Trevor Fitzgerald led the Bucks with 13 points.  Yankton is still the top seed in the state at 13 and 3 as they host Mitchell next Friday in their final regular season home game.

Watertown and Deuel repeated as the Class AA and Class A champions in the state gymnastics meet at Aberdeen.  The individual competition takes place today and the Yankton Gazelles will have five gymnasts going for honors.

The Yankton Bucks wrestling squad competes at the Huron Invitational today.  Yankton will then prepare for the Region 2-A meet next Friday at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

The Mount Marty College basketball teams play at Concordia University today with the women’s contest at 2:00 and the men’s game at 4.  The Mount Marty men are fifth in the conference with the Bulldogs tied for sixth.  The Lancer women are tied for eighth in the G-PAC while third-ranked Concordia is tied for first. Our broadcast of Mount Marty basketball starts at 1:30 on AM 1450, KYNT.

The Mount Marty softball squad opens its season today in Hillsboro, Kansas with a doubleheader against Tabor College.  The Lancer baseball team starts their season Sunday evening with a twin bill against Waldorf University in Ozark, Missouri.
