KYNT Local Sports for 2-14-20

The Yankton Gazelles won their sixth consecutive game last night with a 48-39 home court victory over Watertown.  Senior Madison Wuebben led the Gazelles with 13 points and 8 rebounds and sophomore Ellie Karolevitz chipped in 11 points.  Yankton is 9 and 6 and seeded fifth in Class AA Girls basketball as they host seventh-seed Sioux Falls Roosevelt at 7:00 this evening.

The Yankton Bucks look to extend their nine-game winning streak tonight with a game at Watertown.  The top-seed Bucks are 13 and 2 overall, while Watertown is 6 and 7 and seeded 11th in Class AA.  Yankton junior Matthew Mors is just nine points away from becoming the all-time scoring leader in Class Double-A boys basketball history, passing the mark Eric Kline set in the 1990’s for Aberdeen Central.  Our broadcast of Bucks basketball starts at 6:30 p-m on 1450, KYNT.

The Crofton Lady Warriors rolled past Norfolk Catholic 62-44 last night to improve their record to 19 and 3 overall.  Junior center Lacey Sprakel led Crofton with 14 points and 8 rebounds as she reached the one-thousand point level in her career.  Crofton will host Randolph in a girls-boys doubleheader this evening.

The annual South Dakota gymnastics state meet team competition will be held today at Aberdeen Central High School.  Watertown and Deuel are the defending state champions in Class AA and Class A.  The Yankton Gazelles will have five gymnasts going for honors tomorrow during the individual competition.

The USD women’s basketball squad crushed Western Illinois 88-51 last night at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.  Junior Hannah Sjerven led the Coyotes with 18 points and 11 rebounds as the team won their 12th consecutive Summit League contest.  16th-rated USD is 23 and 2 overall and will play at Oral Roberts in Tulsa Saturday afternoon at 2:00.

Denver upset South Dakota State 72-62 in women’s basketball in Brookings last night.  The Jacks are 18 and 8 overall, and now two games behind South Dakota in the Summit League women’s standings.
