One of the men charged in the death of a Yankton woman 15 months ago has pled guilty in the case. This week in Federal Court in Omaha, 48-year-old Joseph James of Norfolk pled guilty to First Degree Murder in the death of 59-year-old Phyllis Hunhoff of Yankton in November of 2018. As part of the agreement, James has waived his right to appeal or seek a pardon. The court has also agreed to not seek the death penalty against James in this case.
Sentencing for James is set for May 6th in Omaha. A second man, Ramon Simpson, is charged with Kidnapping Resulting In Death and Conspiracy to Commit Kidnapping in the Hunhoff case.
