While uncertainty looms regarding whether or not the Missouri River Clean Up held annually at Yankton’s Riverside Park the first weekend in May will be scuttled again this year, organizers are moving forward with the event planning process.
Last year’s cleanup was cancelled due to high releases from Gavins Point Dam and Izaack Walton League Regional Conservation Coordinator Paul Lepisto says a decision on cancelling the cleanup will wait until much closer to the date of the event.
The annual Missouri River Watershed School Festival at Riverside Park is set for the Thursday of that week and Lepisto says volunteers are needed to help guide students through the presentations.
Lepisto says over the years, teachers have commented on the high quality of the presentations at the festival.
Lepsito says anyone interested in volunteering to help with the Missouri River Watershed School Festival should contact Dugan Smith at the Missouri National Recreational River headquarters.
