The response to a single vehicle accident this morning at Poverty Valley just north of Yankton on Highway 81 has local officials asking for the public’s assistance.
A student had lost control of their vehicle and driven into a ravine and Deputy Fire Chief Larry Nickles says finding the exact location of the vehicle was made more difficult because after calling 9-1-1 no one had stayed at the accident scene.
Nickles says responders had to both search for the vehicle involved in the accident and in order to stay safe, control traffic on Highway 81.
Nickles says when calling 9-1-1, the public is asked to be specific with the information they are calling about and remain at the scene to assist emergency personnel with directions if needed.
Nickles says the accident was reported at about 715 this (yesterday) morning.
