Yankton Community Library Card Price Increase For County Residents

Following action by the Yankton County Commission to reduce the amount of their annual contribution to the Yankton Community Library, county residents who use the facility will soon find a sharp increase in the amount that an annual card will cost their family.

Executive Director Dana Schmidt says effective January 1st county residents will see the cost of a library card for a household increase from five to twenty dollars annually.

Schmidt says because city property taxes fund about ninety seven percent of the community library’s annual budget, city residents are exempt from having to pay for a card.

Schmidt says the annual contribution from Yankton County to the Yankton Community Library was reduced from twenty-four thousand to fifteen thousand dollars.
