The Mount Marty College men’s basketball team upset 16th-ranked Jamestown 93-88 last night in overtime at the Cimpl Arena. Elijah Pappas led the Lancers with 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals while Chris King and Ryan Warren each chipped in 16 points. Mount Marty recorded 14 steals and committed just one turnover is raising their record to 9 and 2 overall.
The Mount Marty women’s basketball squad picked up their first G-PAC win of the season with a 55-53 victory over Jamestown on Monday. The Lancers used strong defense in holding the Jimmies to 22 points in the first three quarters and then held off a furious comeback for the two-point victory. Karlee McKinney had 16 points and 6 assists for Mount Marty, now 5 and 3 on the season. The Lancer women have an exhibition game at Wayne State this evening.
22nd-ranked Missouri State handed South Dakota its first women’s basketball loss of the season, beating the Coyotes 74-66 in Vermillion last night. Crofton junior Monica Arens sank five three-point shots and led the Coyotes with 19 points. USD is now 5 and 1 on the season and will face Ohio State Friday evening in Las Vegas.
There are four Missouri Valley Football Conference teams that finished in the top 13 of the final FCS Poll of the regular season. Unbeaten North Dakota State is first, Northern Iowa moved up to sixth, South Dakota State dropped to tenth in the poll after losing to the USD Coyotes on Saturday, and Illinois State is rated 13th nationally.
Vermillion High School senior Lucas Anglin has signed to wrestle at South Dakota State. Anglin has won back-to-back Class A state wrestling championships for the Tanagers.
