South Dakota surprised fifth-ranked South Dakota State 24-21 Saturday before a sold-out crowd in the Dome. The Coyotes stopped the Jacks on three drives in the fourth quarter to snap a ten-game losing streak in the series. USD finished up at 5 and 7 this season and equaled their best record in the Missouri Valley Football Conference at 4 wins and 4 losses.
South Dakota State ended the regular season with an 8 and 4 record and on Sunday they earned the number-seven seed in the FCS playoffs. The Jacks will get a bye this week, and then host the winner of San Diego at Northern Iowa on Saturday December 7th at 1 p-m in Brookings.
The USD women’s basketball team faces another nationally-ranked opponent this evening. Missouri State is rated 22nd in the nation, and will face the unbeaten 28th-ranked Coyotes in a battle at 7 tonight in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
Omaha upset South Dakota in a very close Summit League volleyball semifinal match Saturday in Denver by scores of 21-25, 28-26, 29-27 and 26-24. The loss snapped the Coyotes 24-match winning streak and dropped their overall record to 27 wins and 2 losses. Denver won the Summit League post-season championship with a 3-1 victory over Omaha on Sunday.
In the South Dakota Class AA volleyball championship Saturday night in Rapid City, top-seed Watertown swept Sioux Falls O’Gorman 3-0 to win the title. Sioux Falls Christian edged Dakota Valley 3-2 in the Class A title, and Elk Point-Jefferson ended up in seventh place. Northwestern won the Class B volleyball championship with a 3-0 victory over Faulkton.
The Mount Marty College basketball teams will host the University of Jamestown tonight in a G-PAC doubleheader. The Lancer women are 4 and 3 on the season and Jamestown has a 6 and 2 record. The Mount Marty men are 8 and 2 overall and tied for third place in the conference, while the Jimmies are ranked 16th in the nation with a 7 and 3 season record. The twin bill begins at 6:00 tonight in the Cimpl Arena, and our broadcast starts at 5:30 p-m on AM 1450, KYNT.
