The South Dakota girls volleyball state tournaments continue today. All three classes are competing in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City. In the Class A opening round on Thursday, top-seed Miller defeated Elk Point-Jefferson 3-0 and second-seed Dakota Valley downed Madison 3-0. In the Class Double-A semifinals tonight in Rapid City, number one seed Watertown faces Washington followed by Huron against Sioux Falls O’Gorman.
The South Dakota women’s basketball team got their biggest win of the season last night by defeating the University of Missouri 72-56 in Vermillion. Crofton junior Monica Arens led the Coyotes with a career-high 18 points and 6 rebounds. U-S-D is unbeaten in five games and rated 28th in the nation and will prepare to host 22nd-ranked Missouri State on Monday.
The South Dakota men’s basketball team plays at the University of Arkansas tonight. Both teams are unbeaten on the season heading into the 8:00 game this evening in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
South Dakota State had a three-point lead at halftime before 14th-ranked Arizona rallied to defeat the Jacks 71-64 last night in men’s basketball. Douglas Wilson led SDSU with 15 points as they are now 4 and 3 overall heading into a Sunday game at home against Mississippi Valley State.
South Dakota hosts fifth-ranked South Dakota State in the state’s biggest football rivalry game Saturday afternoon. The Jacks are 8 and 3 overall, while the Coyotes are 4 and 7 heading into their final game of the season. The kickoff takes place at 2:00 Saturday in the Dome.
