KYNT Local Sports for 11-21-19

The Mount Marty men’s basketball team shot 62 percent from the floor and upset Briar Cliff 110-96 in Sioux City last night.  Chris King led the Lancers with 28 points and Colby Johnson added 23.  The Mount Marty men’s victory snapped a 26-game losing streak against Briar Cliff, and it was the first Lancer conference win against a G-PAC team in northwest Iowa in nine years spanning 37 games.  Mount Marty is 8 and 2 overall, while the nationally-ranked Chargers took their first loss this season.

Briar Cliff started fast and held off Mount Marty 79-72 in the women’s G-PAC game last night.  Junior Karlee McKinney topped the Lancers with 16 points as their season record fell to 4 and 3 overall.  Mount Marty will host Jamestown in a conference doubleheader Monday evening at the Cimpl Arena.

The G-PAC Volleyball all-conference teams were announced Wednesday.  Mount Marty outside hitters junior Elizabeth Watchorn and freshman Gabby Ruth were each given Honorable Mention by the conference.  Five G-PAC volleyball teams have qualified for the national tournament.

The unbeaten South Dakota women’s basketball team hosts the University of Missouri tonight at 7:00 in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.  The Coyotes have won four consecutive games and are rated 28th in the nation, while the Tigers have a 1 and 3 season record.  U-S-D is ranked number-one in the Women’s Basketball Mid-Major poll this week.
