In junior varsity basketball on Tuesday, Morningside beat Mount Marty 68-58 in the women’s contest and Mount Marty rolled past the Mustangs 87-64 in the men’s JV contest.
USD senior Anne Rasmussen has been named the Summit League Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for a 13th time in her career. The Coyotes ended the regular season at 27-1 with a 24-match winning streak, and will be the number-one seed in the Summit League Tournament this weekend in Denver.
South Dakota State edged North Alabama 78-73 in men’s basketball last night at Frost Arena in Brookings. Matt Dentlinger led the Jacks with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The SDSU men are 4 and 2 now with a game at Arizona on Thursday.
Nicole Cirillo has submitted her resignation as head volleyball coach at South Dakota State University. Cirillo was head coach of the Jacks for the past five years and they won six games in each of the last two seasons. SDSU Athletic Director Justin Sell says a national search for a head volleyball coach begins immediately.
The South Dakota Coaches have named the Area Cross-Country Coaches of the Year. Larry Buffington from Gayville-Volin was selected as the Area 3 Class B Cross-Country Coach of the Year.
There have been a number of changes to the Yankton Bucks wrestling schedule over the past few days. The Harrisburg Triangular has been moved earlier and will now be held Tuesday, January 7th starting at 5 p-m. The Bucks will not wrestle in the Harrisburg Invite on Saturday, January 18th. Yankton will wrestle in Pierre on Friday, January 24th along with matches with Spearfish and Rapid City Central, and then the Bucks will compete at the Chamberlain Invite on Saturday, January 25.
