Jamesville Bridge Repair Funding

With a price tag in the neighborhood of two hundred thousand dollars for repairs to the Jamesville Bridge on the James River northwest of Yankton and no disaster aid coming from the state of South Dakota for the structure, officials are considering keeping the bridge closed for an extended period of time and possibly permanently.

Yankton County Commission Chairman Dan Klimisch says they have heard from the state Department of Transportation that the damage sustained by the bridge is not flood related and does not qualify for disaster aid.

Klimisch says with no money in the county budget for such repairs, there may no choice but to leave the bridge closed permanently.

Klimisch says he wants to examine the paperwork that has been submitted both by the state D-O-T and Clark Engineering on the damage to the bridge to see if another opinion is warranted.
