In the South Dakota Media prep football poll this week, Yankton has dropped to fifth place in Class 11-Double-A.  In Class 9-Double-A, Bon Homme remains on top with Viborg-Hurley in second place.  Canistota-Freeman is second in 9-A football and Alcester-Hudson is rated sixth in Class 9-B.

In junior varsity football last night, Yankton won at Mitchell by a 17-0 score.  Jaden Supurgeci rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns, while the Bucks defense recorded six quarterback sacks.

Because of the wet weather today, the E-S-D Conference girls tennis meet has been moved back two days.  The Gazelles finished with a 19 and 5 season record and will aim for E-S-D honors in the meet this Thursday at Harrisburg.  The Middle School E-S-D girls tennis tournament will be played Friday in Mitchell.

The Yankton High School soccer teams will host Pierre in a doubleheader today at Crane-Youngworth Stadium and fans are asked to bring canned goods as a Food Drive for the Pathways Shelter for the Homeless.  The unbeaten Gazelles are rated first in the state and will clinch at least a share of the E-S-D title with a win over tenth-ranked Pierre, who is the two-time defending state champions.  The Bucks are seeded 11th and Pierre is 15th in the state.

The Yankton Gazelles volleyball team is winless in 13 matches and seeded 16th in Class Double-A.  They play at 15th-rated Brookings tonight, who is 1 and 11 overall

Two-time defending champion Morningside has a big lead after the first 36 holes of the G-PAC Women’s Golf Tournament.  The Mustangs shot a 622 yesterday at The Bluffs in Vermillion, with Briar Cliff in second at 673 and Mount Marty in seventh place with a 710.  Chantel Brende leads the Lancers with a 175 total and tied for 21st place as the tourney continues next April in Council Bluffs.

The South Dakota and South Dakota State football teams will both open up their Missouri Valley Football Conference schedules this weekend.  The Coyotes will host Indiana State Saturday at 2 p-m in the Dome, and the third-ranked Jacks will face Southern Illinois Saturday at 2:00 in Brookings.
