KYNT Local Sports for 8-8-19

The Wynot Expos banged out 17 hits and whipped Corsica-Stickney 16-6 last night on the opening night of the Class B amateur baseball state tourney in Mitchell.  Jackson Sudbeck pitched the complete game victory and Dawson Sudbeck drove in three runs for Wynot, who faces Winner-Colome in the second round Sunday.

There are four games today in the Class B baseball tournament, including the Crofton Bluejays against Harrisburg at 11 a-m and the Tabor Bluebirds taking on Kimball-White Lake at 5:30 p-m.

The Mount Marty College baseball program has officially announced their recruiting class for this upcoming school year.  Head coach Andy Bernatow is going into his 16th year guiding the Lancers and says they will have 13 incoming college freshmen and 8 junior college transfers.  Local recruits for Mount Marty baseball include Caid Koletzky of Yankton, Christian Uecker (ee-ker) from Bon Homme, J-D Kirchner of Lennox and three players from Sioux Falls.

The G-PAC pre-season Soccer poll has been announced, with Hastings selected to win the men’s title and Midland picked to win the women’s championship.  The Mount Marty men’s squad was chosen for 11th place in the G-PAC and the Lancer women were picked for 13th place.  The first Mount Marty Soccer doubleheader will be August 18th when the Lancers host Southeastern Community College.

Even though classes for students don’t start until August 19th in Yankton, many Yankton High School student-athletes will have their first varsity competition before then.  The Yankton Gazelles tennis squad under new head coach Vanessa Rockne will host a triangular against Brookings and Milbank next Thursday August 15th.  The Gazelles varsity soccer team with head coach Tyler Schuring and the Bucks varsity soccer squad under new head coach Dave Dannenbring will host a doubleheader against Sioux Falls Lincoln next Friday, August 16th.

In American Association baseball on Wednesday, Sioux City scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth for a 3-2 walk-off victory over St. Paul.  The win moves the Explorers within one game of Cleburne in the South Division.  The Texas AirHogs upset the Sioux Falls Canaries 5-4 last night.
