KYNT Local Sports for 8-13-19

Alexandria defeated Tabor 10-3 last night in a second round game in the Class B amateur baseball state tournament in Mitchell.  Tonight at 5:30, Menno takes on Garretson in a second round contest in the state baseball tourney.

The Mount Marty College athletic fall sports season begins on Sunday.  The Lancer women’s and men’s soccer teams will host Southeastern Community College from West Burlington, Iowa.  The soccer doubleheader begins at 3 p-m Sunday at Crane Youngworth Stadium in Yankton.  The first indoor competition for the Lancers is next Tuesday when the Mount Marty volleyball squad will host a match against Presentation College from Aberdeen in the newly-renovated Cimpl Arena.

The Summit League Women’s Soccer pre-season poll was released on Monday, with Denver picked to be the league champion and South Dakota State in second place.  The U-S-D Coyotes were chosen to finish fifth out of nine teams in the Summit League.

University of South Dakota senior Katie Bartlett won the state Women’s Amateur golf championship this weekend at the Brookings Country Club.  Bartlett had a three-round total of 229, two strokes better than Maggie Murphy of Brookings.

Warren Erickson of Yankton carded a hole-in-one this weekend at Fox Run Golf Course.  Erickson aced the 161-yard 17th hole with a six-iron.

In a wild American Association baseball game last night, Sioux Falls edged Sioux City 11-10 as the teams combined for 28 hits.  Jordan Ebert and Clint Coulter each drove in four runs for the Canaries in the victory.  The teams will face off again this afternoon at the Birdcage in Sioux Falls.
