KYNT Local Sports for 7-9-19

Sioux Falls East scored two runs in the seventh and edged Yankton 5-3 last night in Legion baseball at Riverside Field.  Levi Wiersma allowed just two earned runs in six innings on the mound for Yankton, and Bailey Sage led the offense with a two-run single.  It was Yankton’s first loss in the region but they still have clinched the top seed for the Region 2-A Tournament starting July 19th at Riverside Field.  Yankton will host Brandon Valley in a single game tonight starting at 6 p-m with the game broadcast on 1450, KYNT.

Brookings scored in the eighth inning to nip Yankton 6-5 in Junior Legion baseball on Monday.  Cameron Zahrbock and Trevor Fitzgerald each had two hits and two RBI’s for Yankton, which is now 11 and 18 on the season with a doubleheader at Sioux Falls East on Wednesday.

There is a busy youth baseball schedule for Yankton teams today.  The Black Sox have a twin bill at Renner, the Grey Sox will host Brandon Valley in two games this afternoon, the Lakers have a doubleheader at Brookings, and the Reds have a doubleheader tonight at Huron.

In South Central Amateur League baseball this evening, Freeman has a game at Irene and Menno plays at Lesterville.

Sioux Falls crushed Texas 11-2 last night in American Association baseball.  Burt Reynolds had five hits and five RBI’s for the Canaries, and Keaton Steele pitched seven shutout innings for the victory.  Sioux Falls and Sioux City are tied for third place in the South Division with 24 and 24 records, two games behind Cleburne.
