KYNT Local Sports for 7-8-19

Defending state champion Rapid City Post 22 beat Yankton Post 12 in three games this weekend by scores of 4-0, 9-6 and 5-3.  Collin Zahrbock and Michael Drotzmann each had five hits over the weekend for Yankton, while Caid Koletzky had four hits and four RBI’s.  Yankton is 22 and 12 overall and will host Sioux Falls East in a region doubleheader tonight at Riverside Field.  Our broadcast begins at 5:55 p-m this evening on 1450, KYNT.

Irene upset Crofton 5-3 Sunday, knocking the Bluejays out of first place in the South Central Amateur baseball league.  Matt Sees pitched the complete game victory and Simon Healy homered for the Cardinals.  Tabor edged Freeman 3-1 as Bryce Scieszinski struck out eight batters in seven shutout innings and Colin Muth had three hits for the Bluebirds.  Garretson downed the Vermillion Grey Sox 5-2 on Sunday.

South Dakota State grad Mike Daum is playing for the Portland Trail Blazers entry in the NBA Summer League.  Daum scored four points with one rebound in 11 minutes on the court Sunday as Portland defeated Houston 97-87.  Daum graduated as the leading scorer and rebounder in Summit League men’s basketball history.

In American Association baseball Sunday afternoon, Sioux City defeated Sioux Falls 10-5 as Nate Samson and Jose Sermo each drove in three runs for the Explorers.  The league is nearing the halfway point of the season, and the Explorers are 24-24 overall while the Canaries have a 23-24 record.

Patrick Murphy of Alberta won the three-day Bakker Crossing Pro-Am Sunday with a 16-under-par total.  He finished two shots ahead of Dan Woltman of Wisconsin and three strokes ahead of Sioux Falls golfer Andre Metzger.
