The Yankton Post 12 Legion baseball squad clinched the top seed in the upcoming Region 2-A Tournament with a 5-4 victory over Sioux Falls West in the opener last night at Riverside Field.  Kieran Luellman threw six strong innings and Miles Carda got the win in relief as Yankton scored in the bottom of the seventh for the victory.  In the nightcap, Michael Drotzmann belted a go-ahead three-run homer as Yankton got a 6-5 win over West, with Sam Mooney getting the win and Carda picked up the save.  Yankton remained unbeaten in the region and now has a season record of 22 and 9 heading into games at Rapid City Post 22 this weekend.

In Junior Legion baseball last night, Sioux Falls East edged Yankton 4-3 in the first game and Yankton came back for a 10-6 victory in the nightcap.  Joe Gokie had four hits on the night for the Yankton Juniors, now 11 and 17 for the season.

Brandon Valley swept two games from the Yankton Lakers last night by scores of 8-5 and 8-2.  Renner outscored the Yankton Grey Sox 18-11 on Tuesday, while the Yankton Reds split a doubleheader at Sioux Falls East.

In Legion baseball on Tuesday, Tabor won at Crofton 10-3 as Tanner Van Driel pitched four innings with eight strikeouts in the win.  Elk Point-Jefferson allowed just two hits in a 5-1 victory over Vermillion last night.

The Sioux Falls Canaries scored five runs in the first inning, including a grand-slam home run by Clint Coulter, and defeated Kansas City 6-3 last night in American Association baseball.  The Milwaukee Milkmen topped the Sioux City Explorers by a 6-1 score.

Sioux Falls pro Andre Metzger won a three-person playoff in his hometown to claim the title in the Plains Commerce Pro-Am at Willow Run Golf Course.  Metzger had tied with Tim Ailes and Brady Calkins at nine-under-par in the regulation 36 holes before the playoff.
