KYNT Local Sports for 7-2-19

A former Hartington Cedar Catholic grad and Concordia University All-American athlete has been named the Associate Head Track and Field Coach at Mount Marty College.  Jonathon Becker coached the past four years at Mid-American Nazarene University and won numerous coaching awards during that time, along with coaching a number of All-American athletes.  Becker will join Randy Fischer in coaching the Mount Marty track athletes.  He was a 17-time All-Conference track athlete at Concordia.

The Yankton Post 12 Legion baseball squad continues to lead the region standings, one game ahead of second-place Sioux Falls West and three games up on third-place Brandon Valley.  Yankton will host Sioux Falls West in a key region matchup tonight at Riverside Field, and we’ll have the broadcast starting at 5:55 p-m on 1450, KYNT.

Last night in Legion baseball, Vermillion took advantage of 13 walks in a 5-4 win over Beresford.  Vermillion is 9 and 8 this season and will host Elk Point-Jefferson this evening.

The Yankton Tappers and Crofton Bluejays are tied for the lead in the South Central Amateur baseball league with 9 and 1 records, while Tabor is two games behind in third place.  Tonight in league play, Freeman visits Irene and tomorrow night Wynot plays at Crofton in the annual holiday fireworks game.

The Dakotas Golf Tour continues today with the final round of the Plains Commerce event at Willow Run Golf Course in Sioux Falls.  Ohio golfer Tim Ailes fired a seven-under-par 65 and leads the tourney by one shot over Vinnie Murphy of Washington.  The Fox Run Pro-Am that wrapped up Sunday was the second stop on the Tour, which will come back to Yankton for the Hillcrest Pro-Am events beginning at the end of July..
