The Tabor Bluebirds scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to edge Crofton 3-2 in South Central League amateur baseball last night.  Colin Muth out-dueled Ben Hegge in a pitchers battle as both threw complete games for their teams.  Crofton now has a one-game lead over Tabor in a battle for the top seed among local Class B teams for the district tournament starting in two weeks.

There are four games on the South Central League schedule tonight.  Menno will host Scotland, Irene plays at Tabor, Lesterville travels to Wynot, and Crofton entertains Freeman.

Four Yankton youth baseball teams will play in the Sioux Falls Mid-Summer Classic presented by the Sioux Falls Canaries Friday through Sunday.  The Yankton Black Sox, Grey Sox, Lakers and Reds will all compete in this event.

The Yankton Post 12 Legion baseball team has two games Friday morning in the Gopher Classic at the ballpark in North St. Paul.

The Yankton Junior Legion baseball team defeated the Sioux Falls East Americans 12-8 Wednesday in the first game of a twin bill and then East took the nightcap by a 12-1 score.  Yankton is now 12 and 19 overall and will host Mitchell on Friday.

In amateur baseball on Wednesday, the Vermillion Grey Sox routed Canton 16-1 as Cole Anderson pitched the five inning complete-game with six strikeouts.  In Legion baseball last night, Alexandria shut out Vermillion 11-0 and Beresford topped Dakota Valley 11-7.

In American Association baseball last night, the Sioux Falls Canaries nipped Texas 9-8 and the Sioux City Explorers split a doubleheader at Fargo-Moorhead.

The South Dakota men’s basketball program has added Tasos Kamateros from Greece.  He is a 6’8” power forward from Athens who averaged nearly 16 points and 8 rebounds in the Eskana League where he shot 58 percent from the field and 41 percent on his three-point attempts.  Kamateros played in the 2018 FIBA European Championship for the Greek national team.
