KYNT Local Sports for 7-10-19

Brandon Valley scored two runs with two outs in the seventh inning to edge Yankton Post 12 by a 2-1 score last night at Riverside Field.  Ethan Wishon led Yankton with a double and single and drove in the only run, while young pitchers Jayden Lightner and Cayden Peterson allowed just eight hits to Brandon in the loss.  Yankton is 22-14 overall and will play five games this weekend in North St. Paul at the Gopher Classic for Legion baseball teams.

Wakefield nipped Vermillion 2-1 last night in Legion baseball.  Jack Kratz homered for the only Vermillion run, while Dylan Thelen struck out ten batters in a losing cause.  Vermillion is 9-10 this season and plays at Hanson this evening.

In other youth baseball, Crofton defeated the Yankton Black Sox 11-3 and Brandon Valley swept a pair of shutouts over the Yankton Grey Sox.  The Yankton Junior Legion squad plays a twin bill at Sioux Falls East this evening.

In a South Central League amateur baseball game last night, Irene outscored Freeman 12-10.  Matt Sees had four hits including the game-winning three-run homer in the ninth, and he picked up the win in relief for the Cardinals.

In American Association baseball on Tuesday, Sioux Falls whipped Texas 12-1 as Alay Lago belted two home runs with four RBI’s for the Canaries.  Sioux City at Fargo-Moorhead was rained out and the teams will play a doubleheader tonight.

The South Dakota women’s basketball team will face Ohio State and Northern Illinois during Thanksgiving this season.  The Coyotes will play in the South Point Shootout November 29th and 30th in Las Vegas.  U-S-D was 28-6 last year and returns four starters from the team that qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

South Dakota State junior Sydney Bormann of Parkston was named to the Women’s Golf All-American Scholar Team.  Bormann holds a 4.0 GPA majoring in Human Biology, and she ranked third on the Jackrabbits with an average of 78 per round this spring.
