FEMA Public Assistance Grants

The process of recovering from the flooding that struck our area last March has moved into a new phase as FEMA begins to process applications for public assistance grants.

Recovery and Mitigation Manager with the South Dakota Office of Emergency Management Tyler Steen says up to this point, recovery efforts have been focused on providing individuals who suffered losses due to the flooding with the help they need.

For public entities such as townships and counties that are applying for disaster grants, Steen says asking enough questions and providing documentation are top priorities.

Steen says once the applications for public assistance are filed FEMA will begin the process of contacting the applicants to begin reviewing their claims.
