Municipal Water Woes

Like many residents and others throughout the area, issues with water are continuing for the City of Yankton, and much of that can be blamed on flooding in March.

Mayor Nathan Johnson says when there are heavy rains the city’s waste water treatment plant is handling flows that are three times the normal daily average.

Johnson says studies are ongoing to determine what upgrades to the facility are needed in the future.

Johnson says high water levels are also contributing to issues in Yankton’s parks where standing water is preventing crews from mowing and adding to concerns about mosquitoes.
