Yankton Post 12 stayed unbeaten in the Region after a 4-1 opening game victory at Harrisburg last night. Michael Drotzmann pitched a complete-game four-hitter with nine strikeouts for Yankton. Matthew Mors had two RBI’s, Owen Feser had two hits and Collin Zahrbock scored two runs for Post 12. Yankton also won the nightcap 9-5 at Harrisburg as Levi Wiersma threw five innings for the victory. Yankton is 20 and 9 overall and will face Sioux Falls West in a doubleheader on Tuesday at Riverside Field.
The Yankton Junior Legion baseball squad split a pair of one-run games in the Sioux Falls Tournament on Friday. Yankton edged Omaha Millard 11-10 and lost to Pierre 5-4. In a younger division of the Sioux Falls Tourney, the Yankton Reds topped Lake Elmo, Minnesota 5-3 with a four-run rally in the sixth inning.
The CorTrust Daryl Bernard Classic continues today with six youth baseball games at Riverside Field. Wagner shut out the Yankton Black Sox 13-0 on Friday as two Wagner pitchers combined on a no-hitter, and then Renner edged the Black Sox 11-7 last night. The Yankton Black Sox face West Central tonight at 7:00.
In American Association baseball on Friday, Sioux City outscored Lincoln 13-8 as Jose Sermo had three hits and five RBI’s for the Explorers. Sioux Falls now has a nine-game losing streak after Milwaukee defeated the Canaries 8-2 last night.
South Dakota State grad Macy Miller of Mitchell has signed to play professional women’s basketball this season in Spain, and will report to her club on September 1st. Miller was drafted by the WNBA champion Seattle Storm and was cut during the pre-season last month. She was the Summit League Player of the Year two times during her Jackrabbit career.
The Fox Run Pro-Am Golf Tournament continues today and concludes tomorrow with 18-hole rounds at Fox Run in Yankton. After the opening day Friday, Gregory Robarge from California leads the pros with a seven-under-par 65 at Fox Run…two shots ahead of Alistair Docherty of Washington.
