Yankton Post 12 won two Legion baseball games Saturday in the Lewis & Clark Classic at Riverside Field. Yankton whipped Plattsmouth 11-3 as Miles Carda pitched a complete game victory, and Yankton rallied to beat Brookings 6-2 as Michael Drotzmann got the complete game win and Bailey Sage belted a two-run homer. Yankton is 10-4 on the season and will host Harrisburg in a twin bill Tuesday night.
Blair, Nebraska won the 18th annual Lewis & Clark Classic on Sunday, defeating Sioux Falls West 9-5 in the championship game. Blair had eliminated defending champion Springfield-Platteview 10-3 in the first semifinal yesterday, and then Sioux Falls West ousted Renner 10-2 in the next semifinal game at Riverside Field.
The Yankton Junior Legion baseball squad wrapped up play in the Millard Tourney with a 9-1 victory over Lincoln Southeast on Saturday. Bradley Howe pitched a complete game five-hitter as the Yankton Juniors now stand at 7-7 overall.
The Yankton Lakers won the title of the Mitchell tournament on Saturday, defeating Sturgis 12-3 and beating Dell Rapids 8-3. The Yankton Reds took a pair over Brandon Valley Saturday by scores of 9-4 and 15-3.
In South Central League amateur baseball last night, the Yankton Tappers belted 20 hits in a 9-1 victory over Menno. Alex Mueller had four hits and three RBI’s as the Tappers stayed unbeaten in six games this season. Tabor blanked Irene 11-0 as Austin Wise fired a three-hitter with 14 strikeouts for the Bluebirds. Wynot shut out Scotland 10-0 as Lee Heimes homered and had three RBI’s for the Expos.
The South Dakota All-Star Football game was played Saturday in Vermillion, as the Blue Team defeated the Red squad 44-18. Yankton High School grads Rex Ryken and Michael Drotzmann competed in the All-Star Classic.
Dan Kramer of Yankton carded an ace Friday afternoon in the ABS Golf Classic at Fox Run. Kramer used a five-iron on the 176-yard 13th hole at Fox Run for his second career hole-in-one.
