Yankton Fire Department Honored By Red Cross

The Yankton Volunteer Fire Department has been recognized by the American Red Cross with an award for their involvement in the Sound The Alarm, Save A Life program to help place smoke detectors in area homes.

Eastern South Dakota Red Cross Executive Director Patty Brooks says one of those smoke detectors saved the life of a young Yankton resident during a September 2018 fire.

Chief Tom Kurtenbach says he believes that other lives will also be saved by the Sound The Alarm program.

Nationwide, Red Cross’ Sound The Alarm, Save a Life program has been credited with saving the lives of five hundred eighty two people.
